Sun on the Water (1)

Oh I am all awake early
you are so near
how can I sleep?
when soon I will know
again the touch... the span
of your hand on my waist
how can I sleep?
The sky is already fading
a new color of sapphire
the purple finch is singing
outside your window
outside my window
I am already singing
A day of preparation becomes
a day of celebration
a small quiet room
shot through with the impossible
bright spirit of the sun on the water.
you are so near
how can I sleep?
when soon I will know
again the touch... the span
of your hand on my waist
how can I sleep?
The sky is already fading
a new color of sapphire
the purple finch is singing
outside your window
outside my window
I am already singing
A day of preparation becomes
a day of celebration
a small quiet room
shot through with the impossible
bright spirit of the sun on the water.
